Ukraine’s Support for Zelensky, Biden, and NATO Unwavering

In late February, United States President Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Kyiv to meet with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky. While in Kyiv, the U.S. President announced a new US $500 million military aid package for Ukraine. This increased support comes in response to Ukraine’s ongoing requests for additional military assistance from NATO member states. To better understand Ukranians views on President Zelensky, President Biden, and NATO, Premise fielded a rapid response survey.

Insights

  • Most respondents (93%) were aware of U.S. President Biden’s visit to Kyiv and 75% expressed a positive view of the U.S. President.
  • As the war enters its second year, President Zelensky’s approval remains high, with 78% of respondents viewing him favorably.
  • A large majority conveyed a positive view of NATO: 46% with a very positive and 32% with a somewhat positive view.
  • Additionally, most respondents expressed confidence in NATO’s unity, with 20% believing NATO to be very unified and 52% believing NATO is somewhat unified.
  • Ukrainians have confidence in the efficacy of NATO: 26% believe NATO to be very effective and 49% believe NATO to be somewhat effective.

Methodology

Premise collected sentiment data from 1,100 respondents in Ukraine using convenience sampling, a type of non-probability sampling. Our demographic panel had a high level of gender parity, with 50% male and 50% female respondents.
